Exhibition at Art in the Docks for Newham Heritage Month
Once the largest gasworks in the world, covering over 500 acres of land, Beckton played a major role in the development of London. Through this exhibition, fragments of this urban industrial relic were preserved, through digital scanning, site casting, found objects and film, forming a hybrid archive of the landscape in its transitional state, suggesting speculative pasts and futures. The survey of this site reflects on our evolving relationship with place, through the monumental shifts in the city’s post-industrial landscapes and suggests a qualitative and affective approach to fill the amnesic gap between hazy scenes of early 20th century labour and today’s mixed use developments. The exhibition was part of Newham Heritage Month with support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
